ライフワークである詩作シリーズ「航海日詩」をはじめ、個人的な経験や感情、物語を言葉にし、そこから楽曲を紡ぐ。

日本語詞と英詞、歌と語りを自由に往来し、言葉が持つ意味、響き、リズムを通して表現を探求している。

透明感と柔らかさのなかに芯を宿す声と、ネイティブに近く自然と評される英語の発音。言葉に声と音で息を吹き込み、確かに届けるとともに、その先にある、言葉だけでは捉えきれない感情や感覚へと聴き手を導く。

観客からは、心を揺さぶられたという声や、映画を観終えたり、小説を読み終えたりしたときのような感想が寄せられる。

Music begins with poetry.

Drawing on Kōkai Nisshi, an ongoing poetry series and lifelong creative practice, Umi Saito transforms personal experiences, emotions, and stories into words, and from those words, into songs. Moving fluidly between Japanese and English lyrics, song and spoken word, Umi explores the expressive possibilities of language through its meaning, sound, and rhythm.

Umi’s voice combines transparency and softness with an underlying strength. Their English pronunciation is often described as natural and close to that of a native speaker. Through voice and sound, Umi breathes life into words, delivering them with clarity while guiding listeners toward emotions and sensations that language alone cannot fully capture.

Audiences have described being deeply moved by the performances, often likening the experience to the feeling of finishing a film or reaching the end of a story.
